The Black and Jewish communities of South Dallas share a rich, intertwined history; one rooted in family, faith, commerce, and culture. But within that shared legacy lie moments of both solidarity and struggle, resilience and reconciliation. In 2024, Temple Emanu-El, Forest Forward and The Dallas Jewish Community Foundation hosted a powerful and heartfelt conversation that brought together voices from both communities; individuals who grew up in South Dallas and who spoke to its unique legacy of cooperation, kinship, and at times, racial and social divide. It was a vital first step toward deeper understanding. Now, Forest Forward along with Temple Emanu-El are proud to carry that conversation forward. Join moderator Robert Wilonsky of The Dallas Morning News for an enlightening discussion with Rabbi David Stern of Temple Emanu-El, civil rights leader Peter Johnson, community activist Mary Brashear and Larry Golman, a South Dallas native and member of Shearith Israel. Together, they will examine the historic relationship between Black and Jewish communities and how their shared past can inform a more unified future.
